"City of London" to use HAURATON drainage exclusively
When the client is the "City of London" and is so enthusiastic about a company that it wants to collaborate only with this single company for all future public projects, it is both an accolade and a crowning achievement. Such is the case for HAURATON and its work for London's new prestigious Aldgate Square. After many years of work, an incredible urban oasis has risen from a previously unattractive and congested corner of the British metropolis. The new Aldgate Square has already won awards, including the 2018 National Urban Design Award. Bubbling water, numerous benches and spacious green and open spaces give life to the site and provide space for people to meet. A fountain in the public space also serves as a drainage system. HAURATON created numerous tailor-made solutions for Aldgate Square and more than fulfilled the particularly high demands placed on materials, design, technology and hydraulic systems.
Safely guided through every stage
„It was reassuring to have HAURATON on board at an early stage, to help us work through the various issues and processes,” emphasises Construction Manager Ben Manku from the planning department. “It is quite rare nowadays to be able to work with a manufacturer that can take basic concepts through to producing products that meet our very high standards. Being able to consider all our requirements and at times think outside the box.” When it came to the design in particular, where HAURATON needed to combine the visual demands on the products with the practical installation options on site, the company made the almost impossible possible, Manku continues. The project solution with all conceivable custom developments in a multitude of variants impressed the client so much that the only channel systems permitted for installation in the entire "City of London" area in the future will be those from HAURATON.
Radial fountains installed
The linchpin for the project, in addition to the product range, was the international team of experts. HAURATON consulted and met with the client City of London over the course of a year, searching for and finding consistently complex solutions for new demands and significant challenges. Radial channels with falls, custom safety devices and HeelSafe gratings are just a few of many key terms. In the B 125 loading class, only stainless steel of extremely high quality could be used (V4A) to guarantee resistance to chloride-containing media and non-oxidising acids. The team was able to solve all of the issues; among them, for example, were customised inspection covers with various radii for the fountains, standard stainless steel drains and many more.
The international team, consisting of Dirk Kimmel (Project Management Team), Rüdiger Simonis (Senior Export Manager, HAURATON Representative for England), Andy Beirne (Sales and Project Manager, South East England & London), Fabian Schillinger (Export Manager Rastatt) and Andreas Ziermann (Project Management Team), excelled and HAURATON has been involved in projects with the City of London for the last three years. This one in Aldgate Square, technically the most challenging to date, has opened up further doors to exciting projects.
